About Us

Rattlesnake Rods is a small business created by 2 brothers fueled by an incredible passion for our creator and the outdoors. All of our rods are one of a kind or made to order based on a design collaboration of the builder and client.

RR

Our business is predicated upon the fact that every rod is built or repaired by us on US soil. Nothing is outsourced and we will do everything possible to buy products Made in America.

Chris Moser

Chris and Jeff Moser are a team composed of brotherly love. A pure and simple love for the sport of Fly Fishing and a lifetime of sharing that passion.  It all began as kids spin fishing the streams and rivers of Pennsylvania. However with the mentorship of our longtime expert fly tier, rod builder, and fly fisherman Russ Long. our love of trout fishing grew in leaps and bounds. It all began as teenagers when we searched a phone book looking for anyone who had a local fly shop. That's when we found Russ. He had a tiny but jam-packed fly shop in a spare bedroom of his home in Levittown, PA. We spent countless hours visiting him and soon became great friends going on trips to PA, NY and Mt. Not long after our first meeting we began buying equipment, materials and tying flies with Russ' guidance. I think back on the 40+ years that has past and realize that this was all apart of a plan by the man upstairs. We sure miss Russ and his infinite wisdom and guidance that lead us to today-following in his footsteps.

Fueled by passion Jeff and I at the ages of 19 and 22 took a leap of faith and headed West for our first Montana trip to the Big Horn River. This when we turned the page created a deep love for the sport and an unending desire to learn more and of course catch more Trout in new and exciting places. The natural progression, with our life long passion, is to push the limits and continue to hone our skills in every aspect of the sport. Inevitably this led us both to the fine craft of fly rod building.

Chris’ specialty is restoration of sought after vintage bamboo rods. This craft requires diligence, commitment and attention to detail to return a rod to its original state. This must be done through careful guide removal, stripping of varnish, straightening of the bamboo, and restoration of the original reel seat and guides to like new condition. Next is matching the silk threads and a 4-5 coat process with spar varnish. The end result is often a transformation from an old dirty, dingy, unusable rod to a masterpiece. A vintage fly rod that has all the original parts but is now ready to fish your favorite stretch of water.  If you have an old bamboo rod and you want to fish it let us know. We would love to restore it for you.

Jeff has discovered a passion for fiberglass rods. The material’s technology and performance has advanced in the last decade to the point whereby fisherman are again enjoying these rods. The newest blanks are faster (S type glass) stronger, easy to cast and forgiving enough for beginners and experts alike. The colors are where the fiberglass rods can stand alone. With so many different colors and available in a translucent blank, the color combinations are endless when combined with vibrant silk wraps. These are then coordinated with reel seats, guides custom handles etc…, which provides for endless possibilities.  Every rod we produce is one of a kind and makes an individual statement for the owner, especially if they are involved in the selection of materials. We believe that every fisherman should have at least one fiberglass rod in their quiver. We can build on blanks we have in stock, a customer supplied blank or customer selected. We also build on carbon blanks and currently have (6) vintage Loomis in stock for that special rod. Contact Us

Our primary goal is to provide hand made fishing rods for the fisherman who can appreciate high quality. As the owners and the only rod builders our commitment to quality will never waver. Many companies eventually sub out all or parts of the rod building to increase production and profits but often sacrificing quality. As Americans we will make it a priority to use USA made materials when ever  it's possible. We are both big lovers of God and our country so this is very important to us. We build rods to simply express our creative selves and put smiles on our customers faces in hopes that we develop strong relationships with our customers. We believe the only way to do that is with sincerity and trust.

All of our new rods are individually numbered and identified by length and line weight. Custom handles are made from an endless combination of materials including snake skin, cork, burls, burnt cork, exotic hardwoods and other materials. We hand grind the snake guides when needed and use unique agate stripping guides to complement the rod color scheme. We are currently working on several new reel seat prototypes that will make a very bold statement and truly make your rod one of a kind. Look for it to come out in the next 6 months or less.
